Featured Matchup🎰

New Orleans Saints @ Green Bay Packers
Model Predicts- Packers ML, OVER 42.5, Saints +14

The New Orleans Saints will hit the road for the second time in three weeks on Monday, making the journey north to Green Bay, Wisconsin to battle an NFC Conference foe in the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football.

New Orleans enters tonight’s NFC battle having posted mixed results in December, beating the New York Giants in Week 14 but falling short to the Los Angeles Rams and Washington Commanders. Meanwhile, Green Bay has been one of the hottest teams in the NFL over last month, posting four wins in the last five games.

Green Bay is a massive favorite at home tonight, but we are more focused on the total in this matchup. Let’s take a look at why that is.

New Orleans Saints
  • Have won three of five games since Week 10

    • Wins over Falcons, Browns, and Giants. Losses to Rams and Commanders

    • Own +19 point differential in that span

  • Defense has been shredded in most aspects all season

    • Surrendering 5.8 yards/play (30th in NFL). Rank in bottom-six in opponent rushing (134.4) and passing (242.2) yards/game

    • Vulnerable in red zone- surrendering TD on 66.67% of red zone drives over last three games

  • Offense is dealing with plethora of injuries

    • QB Derek Carr, RB Alvin Kamara join Chris Olave, Taysom Hill, and Rashid Shaheed as OUT. WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling is questionable

Green Bay Packers
  • Enter tonight having won four of last five games

    • Wins over Bears, 49ers, Dolphins, Lions, and Seahawks

    • Own +56 point differential in that span

  • Offense has been scoring at high rate during winning stretch

    • Averaging 29.8 points/game over last five games. Have scored 30+ points in four of five games

    • Efficient in red zone- Scoring TD on more than 64% of red zone drives since Week 13

  • Defense has been solid overall, but has been vulnerable in some areas

What’s the Play?

New Orleans is riddled with injuries on the offensive side of the ball, but we agree with our model that the Saints can contribute enough scoring alongside the Packers to hit the over in this matchup.

Spencer Rattler will suit up as quarterback tonight for the Saints, which gives New Orleans some life in the passing game. The rookie quarterback started the second half of last week’s game against Washington after Jake Haener completed just four passes in the first two quarters, and nearly led the Saints to a comeback victory after throwing for 135 yards and leading four scoring drives that resulted in 19 points. That gives the rookie plenty of momentum here, and we expect him to keep rolling against a vulnerable Packers passing defense.

Green Bay should get whatever it wants offensively, but some injuries defensively to Quay Walker and Javon Bullard (both OUT) and potentially Jaire Alexander open up the door for New Orleans to find pay dirt. Our model projects 46 points to be scored here, giving us some room to back the over at 42.5.

The Play: Over 42.5 (-110)

Relevant Betting Trends

  • Green Bay Packers- 10-4 overall this season, 5-2 as the home team, and 4-1 in last five games

  • Green Bay Packers- Over is 3-1 in last four games with average total of 50.8

  • New Orleans Saints- 6-8 against the spread (ATS) this season, 5-5 ATS as an underdog

News Around the League

💪 Penix picks up win in first NFL start. Rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. delivered a poised debut for the Atlanta Falcons, leading them to a dominant 34-7 victory over the New York Giants with help from a defense that scored two pick-sixes. The Falcons, now 8-7, bolstered their playoff hopes as Bijan Robinson added two rushing touchdowns and the defense capitalized on mistakes by Giants quarterback Drew Lock, who threw multiple interceptions and lost a fumble. Despite a turbulent season, Atlanta’s win highlighted Penix’s composure and strong team contributions, while the Giants suffered their franchise-record 10th straight loss.

🤕 Hurts suffers concussion in road loss to Commanders. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts left Sunday’s 36-33 loss to the Washington Commanders in the first quarter with a concussion after hitting his head during a rushing play. Backup Kenny Pickett stepped in, throwing for 143 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, while Saquon Barkley rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns, but the Eagles still fell short. The loss dropped Philadelphia to 12-3, leaving them one game behind the Detroit Lions in the race for the NFC’s top seed with two weeks remaining in the regular season.
