Featured Matchup🎰

Indianapolis Colts @ Cincinnati Bengals
Model Predicts- Colts ML, OVER 44, Colts +2.5

The Indianapolis Colts will make the short journey to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on the Bengals this Sunday.

Indianapolis enters today’s matchup as one of the hottest teams in the NFL, winning four consecutive games. The win streak now has the Colts positioned in second place in the AFC South with a 7-5 record, while Cincinnati sits in fourth in the AFC North following a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday.

Both Indy and Cincinnati have momentum on their side entering this matchup, but our model believes the Colts will prevail on the road. Let’s dive into why that is.

Indianapolis Colts
  • Big OT win last week against Titans

    • Win over division opponent. Put Colts right behind Jaguars, who could be without Trevor Lawrence

  • 4-0 in last four games

    • Beat Panthers, Patriots, Buccaneers, and Titans

    • 27 points or more in three of four games

    • Only poor showing was in Germany against Patriots- 10 points, 264 yards

  • Defense is best against pass

Cincinnati Bengals
  • Coming off win on Monday Night

    • Beat Jaguars 34-31

    • Jake Browning- completed 86% of pass attempts for 354 yards

  • Still one-dimensional offense that favors the pass

    • Can’t run the ball- 82.5 rush yards per game (32nd in NFL)

    • Run ball on 34% of plays

  • Defense has plenty of problems

    • Gave up 491 total yards last week

    • Bad against pass- 31st in dropback success rate, allow 11.7 yards per completion

What’s the Play?

It should be noted that the Colts’ win streak has partially been due to a weak schedule, but we still agree with our model that Indianapolis is set up well to cover the spread as an underdog this afternoon.

One thing that does not bode well for Cincinnati is its predicability. The Bengals had success on the ground last week, but for the most part this team has completely abandoned the run and has become a pass-heavy offense. Being predictable is bad news against any opponent, but it is even worse against a Colts defense that is strong against the pass.

Meanwhile, Cincinnati’s defense has struggled to stop nearly every opponent this season. Indianapolis will be without Jonathan Taylor, but the Colts have a capable backup in Zach Moss, and Gardner Minshew has shown he can do enough in the pass game to keep the Colts in games.

As a result, we’ll take Indy on the short spread .

The Play: Colts +2.5 (-110)

News Around the League

🐆 Jaguars pushing for Lawrence to play vs Browns. The Jacksonville Jaguars are poised to start quarterback Trevor Lawrence against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, pending his fitness after the pregame warmup, as per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Lawrence sustained a high ankle sprain during the Bengals game, an injury that often benches players for several weeks. In case Lawrence cannot play, C.J. Beathard is expected to take over, with Nathan Rourke brought onto the active roster as a backup option.

👍 NFL won’t punish Bengals for Burrow injury dispute. The NFL confirmed the Cincinnati Bengals abided by the league's injury report policy regarding Joe Burrow's situation in Week 11, as stated by a league representative. Despite not being listed on the injury report, Burrow wore a wrist sleeve before the Ravens game, clarifying it was to prevent swelling during flights, per CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones. The NFL's investigation, which involved reviewing medical records and interviewing Bengals' medical staff and Burrow, concluded that the team adhered to proper protocols before the Week 11 match.

On This Day in History🗓

Former Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson (Getty Images)

Anyone know what has happened on December 10th throughout history? We didn’t have a clue either, but it appears that it has been a busy day.

On December 10th…

1940- The Chicago Bears select John Harmon with the first overall pick in the NFL Draft. Harmon was widely considered the best prospect in the 1940 draft, as he was a consensus All-American and Heisman Trophy winner at the University of Michigan in 1940. However, Harmon never played a game for Chicago, instead opting for a career in acting and radio.

1995- The Toronto Raptors defeat the Vancouver Grizzlies 93-81. This was the first time Toronto and Vancouver ever played one another, as both entered the league as expansion franchises in 1995. However, wins would be a rarity for Toronto moving forward, ending the year with a 21-61 record, while Vancouver was even worse at 15-67.

2016- Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson wins the 82nd Heisman Trophy. The honor came after Jackson tallied 4,928 total yards of offense in the 2016 season, the second-most by a Heisman winner ever. Jackson was also just 19 years old at the time he won the award, making him the youngest Heisman Trophy winner.
