Featured Matchup🎰

Philadelphia Flyers @ St. Louis Blues
Model Predicts- Flyers ML, OVER 6, Flyers +1.5

The Philadelphia Flyers will end a three-game road trip on Monday night, with the final stop coming in St. Louis, Missouri to take on the Blues.

Philadelphia has posted a perfect record on the aforementioned road trip, picking up wins over the Minnesota Wild and Winnipeg Jets. The Flyers now own a 23-14-6 record for the season, while the Blues own a 21-18-2 record following an overtime loss to the Boston Bruins on Saturday.

Sportsbooks essentially make this game a coin flip, but our model shows a significant edge on Philadelphia tonight. Let’s take a look at why that is.

Philadelphia Flyers
  • Undefeated on current road trip

    • Wins over Wild and Jets and back-to-back nights

    • +3 goal differential in that stretch

  • Possess one of best defenses in NHL

    • Rank 11th in xGA/60 and 10th in HDCA/60 in 5-on-5 situations

    • Allow seventh-fewest shots on goal per game (28.9) and are top penalty kill team

  • Expected goalie- Carter Hart

    • .913 Save % in 5-on-5. Ranks 35th in Goals Saved Above Expected (GSAx) with +2.5

St. Louis Blues
  • Have gone 3-1-1 since start of 2024

    • Great wins over Canucks, Hurricanes, and Rangers

  • One of worst scoring attacks in NHL this season

    • Own GF/60 in 5-on-5 of 2.39, while xGF/60 sits at 2.38 in 5-on-5

      • Shows an offensive that is already meeting its potential

      • Rank in bottom 8 in NHL in both categories

  • Expected goalie- Jordan Binnington

    • .911 Save % in 5-on-5. Ranks 16th in GSAx (+6.5)

What’s the Play?

Taking a team on the back end of a road trip is always risky, but we agree with our model that the Flyers can win this game outright.

St. Louis’ scoring attack is almost non-existent, scoring two goals or less in six of the last eight games. It is unlikely that changes tonight, as Philadelphia just held the Winnipeg Jets, one of the best teams in hockey, two zero goals on Saturday night and has proven to be a force when at full strength and down a man.

It is difficult to find a crease in this Flyers defense, and although Philly’s offense is no powerhouse, the group has proven it can win games by scoring only two or three goals. That is likely all that will be needed tonight.

The Play: Flyers ML (-105)

On This Day in History🗓

New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor (Focus on Sport/Getty Images)

Anyone know what has happened on January 15th throughout history? We didn’t have a clue either, but it appears that it has been a busy day.

On January 15th…

1994- Lawrence Taylor announces his retirement from the NFL. Taylor was selected with the No.2 overall pick in the 1981 NFL Draft by the New York Giants, the team he would play for his whole career. He won two Super Bowls with the Giants and won the MVP one time, earning him a spot in the Hall of Fame in 1999.

1997- George Seifert announces his resignation from the NFL. Seifert had eight successful seasons in the NFL as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, posting a 108-35 record and winning two Super Bowls. He would later return to the NFL to coach the Carolina Panthers from 1999-2001.

2023- LeBron James scores 35 points in a 113-112 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. The scoring outburst enabled James to surpass 38,000 career points, joining only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the only players in NBA history to reach the milestone. James has now scored 39,541 points in his career, the most in NBA history.
