Featured Matchup🎰

Toronto Raptors @ Detroit Pistons
Model Predicts- Pistons ML, OVER 232, Pistons -3.5

The Toronto Raptors will end a four-game road trip on Wednesday night, with the final stop coming in Detroit, Michigan to take on the Pistons.

Toronto has not faired well during it current road trip, posting an 0-3 record. The Raptors have now lost six of their last seven games, while Detroit enters tonight’s matchup fresh off a win against the Charlotte Hornets.

This is arguably the most unappealing matchup on tonight’s slate, but our model sees value on Detroit as a home favorite. Let’s take a look at why that is.

Toronto Raptors
  • Enter tonight on four-game losing streak

    • Losses to Pelicans, Suns, Trail Blazers, and Nuggets

    • -64 point differential in that four-game span

  • Poor defense has been the cause for many losses

    • Surrendering 128 points per game over last four games

    • Rank 29th in Defensive Rating (125.5) during losing streak. Opponents shooting 50.9% overall and 42.5% from three

  • Injuries- Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett, Jakob Poeltl, and Chris Boucher are OUT. Immanuel Quickley and Gary Trent Jr. are questionable

Detroit Pistons
  • Fresh off win against Hornets

    • Won 114-97. Held Hornets to shooting 39% as a team

  • Have now won two of last three games

    • Wins over Nets and Hornets. Loss to Mavericks

    • Own +1.2 Net Rating in that stretch- big improvement from -8.2 season Net Rating

    • Averaging 118.67 points per game

  • Injuries- Ausar Thompson is questionable

What’s the Play?

It’s never fun backing the Pistons, but we agree with our model that Detroit can cover the spread as a home favorite for the second straight game.

The biggest advantage that Detroit has tonight is health. Toronto will be without its top two scorers in Barnes and Barrett, and the potential absence of Quickley and Trent Jr means that that Raptors could actually be without its top four scorers. Additionally, Toronto’s defensive presence is almost non-existent due to many of those injuries, likely giving the Pistons a free run at the hoop all night.

Detroit has had some bright spots over the last week, and this is a great matchup to continue building on that momentum.

The Play: Pistons -3.5 (-105)

News Around the League

💰 Magic give Mosley four-year extension. The Orlando Magic have extended head coach Jamahl Mosley's contract for four years, ensuring his leadership until the 2027-28 season. Since joining in 2021, Mosley has achieved a record of 93-136, with this season showing significant improvement as the Magic currently sit fifth in the Eastern Conference at 37-28. President of basketball operations Jeff Weltman praised Mosley's impact, highlighting his work ethic, player connection, and positive results, especially in developing players like 2023 No. 1 pick Paolo Banchero, who became the first Magic All-Star since 2021 under Mosley's guidance.

🤕 Cam Whitmore out three weeks with knee injury. Houston Rockets rookie Cam Whitmore is set to miss around three weeks due to a knee sprain, as confirmed by head coach Ime Udoka. The exact timing of the injury remains uncertain, but Whitmore's absence will likely see increased minutes for Reggie Bullock and Jae'Sean Tate. Despite being drafted lower than expected at No. 20 due to medical concerns and pre-draft performance, Whitmore has been a strong contributor off the bench, averaging 12.1 points and shooting 36.1% from three-point range in his first season.

On This Day in History🗓

Anyone know what has happened on March 13th throughout history? We didn’t have a clue either, but it appears that it has been a busy day.

On March 13th…

1960- The NFL’s Chicago Cardinals relocate to St. Louis, Missouri. The Cardinals played in Chicago from 1922-1959, and went on to have nearly a three-decade stint in St. Louis as well. However, following the end of the 1993 season, the Cardinals would move out west to Arizona, where the team still resides today.

1979- Mike Bossy records his fifth career hat trick. The performance came in a 7-2 Islanders win over the Boston Bruins, with Bossy scoring his 55th, 56th, and 57th goals of the season. Bossy would end his legendary career with 10 hat tricks, the third-most in NHL history.

2022- NFL quarterback Tom Brady ends his retirement. Brady announced his retirement from football just 40 days prior to ending it, saying that he felt he had at least one more season in him. Brady would lead the Buccaneers to an 8-9 record in what would be his final season, which surprisingly won the NFC South division.
