Today’s Model Predictions

Nine NBA games are scheduled to take place today. Our model’s predictions for all nine matchups can be found below.

Featured Matchup🎰

Milwaukee Bucks @ Los Angeles Clippers
Model Predicts- Bucks ML, OVER 224.5, Bucks -3.5

The Milwaukee Bucks will play their third game of a four-game road trip this afternoon, staying in Los Angeles, California to take on the Clippers.

Milwaukee’s road trip has gotten off to a rough start, suffering losses at the hands of the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers. However, the Bucks still own a 41-23 record for the season, which is nearly in line with the Clippers’ 41-21 record following a win over the Bulls yesterday afternoon.

This is a back-to-back for the Clippers, and Daylight Savings Time means that L.A. loses an hour of recovery on what was already a short turnaround. As a result, our model believes the Bucks will win and cover the spread here. Let’s dive into why that is.

Milwaukee Bucks
  • 0-2 on current West Coast road trip

    • Losses to Warriors and Lakers

    • Lost to Warriors by 35 and Lakers by 1

  • Still have had success post All-Star break despite recent losses

  • Injuries- Khris Middleton is OUT, Giannis Antetokounmpo is probable

Los Angeles Clippers
  • Picked up win yesterday against Bulls

    • Won 112-102. Scored 46 points in first half and 66 in second half

  • Have been one of best teams in March

    • Own 4-1 record- wins over Wizards, Timberwolves, Rockets, and Bulls

    • +7.7 Net Rating is third in NBA behind New Orleans and Boston

  • Injuries- Russell Westbrook is OUT

What’s the Play?

The Clippers have been playing great basketball as of late, but we agree with our model that the Bucks have the upper hand here.

L.A.’s recent scheduled hasn’t exactly been challenging. A 4-1 record is impressive, but Minnesota, Chicago, Houston, and Washington all rank outside the top-18 in Offensive Rating this season, and Minnesota is the only team ranked higher than 18th in Net Rating. Meanwhile, Milwaukee ranks inside the top nine in both categories.

Additionally, the scheduling of this game does not favor the Clippers at all, as tip-off comes just 19 hours following the conclusion of yesterday’s game with Chicago. The Clippers are in a tough spot here, and that gives the Bucks a great chance to get back in the win column.

The Play: Bucks -3.5 (-120)

News Around the League

🤕 Benedict Mathurin to have season-ending surgery. Indiana Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin will miss the remainder of the season due to surgery for a torn labrum in his right shoulder. The 2024 Rising Stars MVP will undergo the procedure in Los Angeles next week. Despite the setback, Mathurin is expected to fully recover in time for the 2024-25 campaign, but his absence will certainly hurt Indiana in the short term.

😬 LeBron James dealing with “severe soreness” in injured ankle. LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers missed Friday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks due to a left ankle injury, which has been causing him severe soreness. Lakers head coach Darvin Ham attributed the injury to James' 21 years of service in the NBA and stated that his status is day by day. James has been receiving treatment for his ankle before and after the All-Star break and leads the Lakers in scoring, assists, and steals.

Anyone know what has happened on March 10th throughout history? We didn’t have a clue either, but it appears that it has been a busy day.

On March 10th…

1963- San Francisco Warriors star Wilt Chamberlain scores 70 points in a game against the Syracuse Nationals. Despite Chamberlain’s stellar performance, the Warriors fell short to the Nationals by a score of 163-148. Chamberlain played all 48 minutes in the game, shooting 71.1% overall and 72.7% from the free throw line.

1998- Los Angeles Charges quarterback Justin Herbert is born in Eugene, Oregon. Herbert came on to the football scene in his days at Sheldon High School, and eventually attended college in his hometown at the University of Oregon. Following his days as a Duck, Herbert would enter the NFL Draft and was selected sixth overall by the Chargers in 2020.

2022- Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association reach a new collective bargaining agreement. The agreement came after a 99-day lockout, which began on December 2, 2021. The lockout was due to disagreements regarding compensation for young players and teams tanking for higher draft picks.
