Featured Matchup🎰
Boston Celtics @ Indiana Pacers
Model Predicts- Celtics ML, OVER 233.5, Pacers +7.5
The Boston Celtics will begin a four-game road trip on Wednesday, with the first stop coming in Indianapolis, Indiana to battle the Pacers.
Boston enters tonight’s matchup looking poised to make another NBA Finals run, beginning the 2024-25 season with four consecutive victories. On the other hand, Indiana is in the midst of an early-season slump despite high expectations, winning just one of its first four games.
The last time these teams met was in last season’s Eastern Conference Final, a series Boston won in four games. Our model projects the Celtics to win again tonight, but believes Indiana can keep it close in a high-scoring game. Let’s dive into why that is.
Boston Celtics
Enter today on four-game win streak
Wins over Knicks, Wizards, Pistons, and Bucks
Own +60 point differential in that span. Average win margin of 15.0 points
Offensive efficiency has been key to fast start
Own 126.1 Offensive Rating this season- ranks 1st in NBA by 3.8 points
Shooting 47.2% from floor overall (9th in NBA) and 42.8% from three (1st in NBA)
Defense strong on perimeter, but getting crushed inside
Holding opponents to 29.4% shooting from three
Rank 25th in opponent field goal percentage (47.8%), 24th in opponent points/game in paint (52.0)
Indiana Pacers
Enter tonight’s matchup on three-game losing streak
Losses to Knicks, 76ers, and Magic
Lost by 25 points to Knicks, but just four points to 76ers and Magic
Defense is once again a consistent issue
Rank 23rd in Defensive Rating at 115.8. Ranked 24th in 2023-24 season (117.6)
Opponents shooting just 31.5% from three, but 46.2% overall and still averaging 117.6 points/game
Offense strong inside this season
54.0 points/game in the paint- 6th in NBA
What’s the Play?
Boston has been elite offensively this season while Indiana has yet to find its form, but we still agree with our model to back the over in this spot.
As previously mentioned, Indiana is not producing on the defensive end this season, something that stuck with the Pacers for most of last season, especially against the Celtics. Per NBA.com, Indiana posted an abysmal 126.7 Defensive Rating in five games against the Celtics in the regular season, a result of the Celtics shooting 52.3% overall and 43.6% from three in those games.
Boston is just as hot now as they were back then, and the Pacers have shown no signs of being able to slow down any opponent this season.
However, we expect the Pacers to be in a position to do some damage as well. They have yet to find their touch from deep, but the Pacers have dominated in the interior thus far, which has been Boston’s largest defensive weakness with Kristaps Porzingis sidelined.
Both teams should have no problems scoring tonight, as evidenced by our model projecting roughly 237 points to be scored here. As a result, we’ll back the over.
The Play: Over 233.5 (-110)

News Around the League
💰 76ers fined six-figures for inconsistent injury info on Joel Embiid. The NBA fined the Philadelphia 76ers $100,000 for inconsistent public statements about Joel Embiid’s health status, which violated the league's player participation policy. The investigation confirmed Embiid was legitimately sidelined due to a left knee injury, though his condition didn’t involve any new damage from Olympic play. This fine follows previous penalties last season for the team’s failure to accurately report Embiid’s injuries.
🤕 Lonzo Ball out at least 10 days due to sprained wrist. The Chicago Bulls announced that guard Lonzo Ball will be re-evaluated in 10 days after spraining his wrist in Monday’s win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Ball, who previously missed two and a half seasons due to knee surgeries, has averaged 4.7 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.7 rebounds in limited games this season. The Bulls have struggled to make the playoffs since Ball’s initial injury in 2022, and they currently stand at a 2-2 record, facing the Orlando Magic next.
