Today’s Model Predictions

One NFL game is scheduled to take place today. Our model’s predictions for that matchup can be found below.

Featured Matchup🎰

Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets
Model Predicts- Bills ML, OVER 40.5, Bills -1

The Buffalo Bills will hit the road for the third consecutive week in Week 6, battling an AFC East rival in the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

Buffalo enters this matchup with a 3-2 record and in first place in the AFC East division, but the Bills have cooled down after a hot start to the season and enter tonight on a two-game losing streak. New York is in a similar slump when it comes to finding the win column, as the Jets have lost two consecutive games after beginning the season with a 2-1 record through three weeks.

Neither of these teams has played good football over the last two weeks, but our model projects the Bills to win tonight’s matchup in a high-scoring affair. Le’s dive into why that is.

Buffalo Bills
  • Enter tonight on two-game losing streak

    • Losses to Ravens and Texans. Both games were on the road

    • Own -28 point differential in that span

  • Offense has collapsed over last two weeks

    • First three weeks- averaging 329 yards/game and 37.33 points/game. Only turned ball over one time in that stretch

    • Last two weeks- averaging 256 yards/game and 15.0 points/game. Two fumbles and no interceptions in that stretch

  • Defense is solid overall, but is vulnerable to the run

    • Rank 9th in opponent EPA/play and opponent Success rate

    • Surrendering 144.0 rush yards/game (26th) and 5.2 yards/carry (31st)

New York Jets
  • Enter tonight on two-game losing streak

    • Losses to Broncos and Vikings. Came after starting season 2-1

    • Games have been close- Lost by 1 to Denver, lost by 6 to Minnesota

  • Offense has looked horrific, but changes have been made

    • Rank 27th in yards/game (306.2), 29th in yards/play (4.5), and 25th in points/game (18.6)

    • Made changes to coaching staff- fired head coach Robert Saleh, removed play calling duties from offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett

  • Defense still remains a strong unit

What’s the Play?

New York’s combination of an elite defense and bottom-tier offense hasn’t been great when it comes to producing high-scoring games, but we agree with our model to back the over here.

A large reason the Jets have been bad on offense this season is because too much responsibility has been put on a 40-year-old Aaron Rodgers who is coming off an achilles tear. Per TeamRankings, New York has run the ball on just 35.76% of plays this season, the fourth-fewest in the NFL, and the lack of an established run game has made this offense way too predictable.

However, with a new play caller at the helm and a weak Bills rush defense standing in their way, we expect the Jets to go back to the ground game heavily tonight, which should allow New York to pick up large chunks of yards on the ground and simultaneously open up the passing game.

Buffalo hasn’t produced much offensively over the last two weeks, but has often found itself in the middle of high-scoring games even when the offense plays poorly. Bills games have seen an average total of 49.6 points/game this season, and have surpassed tonight’s total of 40.5 in all five games.

We expect New York to flip the script offensively, and also believe Josh Allen and the Bills offense can put up enough points against a solid Jets defense to get this total above 40.5. As a result, we’ll back the over.

The Play: Over 40.5 (-110)

Relevant Betting Trends

  • Buffalo Bills- 3-2 overall this season, 10-4 vs AFC East opponents since 2022

  • Buffalo Bills- Over is 2-3 this season with average total of 49.6

  • Buffalo Bills- 3-2 against the spread (ATS) this season, 1-1 ATS as a favorite

News Around the League

🤕 Aidan Hutchinson carted off in win over Cowboys. Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson suffered a serious leg injury during Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys and was carted off the field with an air cast. The injury occurred while he was sacking Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, and Hutchinson was later seen appearing to say he had broken his leg. The NFL community and players from both teams showed support for Hutchinson, a top Defensive Player of the Year contender who has led the league with 7.5 sacks this season.

🏴‍☠️ Buccaneers pick up key win over slumping New Orleans. Baker Mayfield threw for 325 yards and four touchdowns despite three turnovers, leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 51-27 victory over the New Orleans Saints. The game blemished rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler's first NFL start for the Saints, who have now lost four straight games. After a high-scoring first half, Tampa Bay pulled ahead for good on Chris Godwin's 55-yard touchdown, and Zyon McCollum's key interception set up another Bucs score as they cruised to a dominant win, racking up 277 rushing yards.
