Featured Matchup🎰
Indiana Pacers @ Boston Celtics
Model Predicts- Celtics ML, OVER 221, Pacers +10
The Indiana Pacers will make the journey to Boston, Massachusetts on Tuesday, taking on the Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Indiana has reached this point by taking down the Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks in back-to-back series, defeating the Bucks in six games in Round 1 while coming back from down 3-2 to beat the Knicks in Game 7 in Round 2. On the other hand, Boston has had a much easier time in the postseason, beating the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers in five games in Rounds 1 and 2, respectively.
The Celtics have been on cruise control in the postseason, and our model projects Boston to win again tonight in a high-scoring game. Let’s dive into why that is.
Indiana Pacers
Coming off series win over Knicks
Beat Knicks in seven games. Went 3-0 at home and 1-3 on road in series
Dominated in Game 7- beat Knicks 130-109. Shot 67% overall and 54% from three
Defensive struggles have lingered into postseason
Posted 117.6 Defensive Rating in regular season. Has risen to 118.1 in postseason- ranks 13th out of 16 playoff teams
Opponents averaging 110.8 points per game in playoffs while shooting 46.7% overall and 36.8% from three
Injuries- Benedict Mathurin is OUT
Boston Celtics
Haven’t faced much resistance in postseason
Own 8-2 record, +12.8 Net Rating, and +124 point differential in 10 games
Own 4-2 record and +11.1 Net Rating at home
Took care of Indiana rather easily in regular season
Posted 3-2 record in five games. +11.9 Net Rating in that span
Dominated offensively- 126.0 Offensive Rating. Shot 52.3% overall and 43.6% from three in season series
Injuries- Kristaps Porzingis is OUT. Xavier Tillman is questionable
What’s the Play?
The quick turnaround from Game 7 to the start of the Eastern Conference Finals is a concern for Indiana’s chances at covering the spread here. However, we don’t believe that turnaround will have a big effect on the overall scoring in this game, and as a result we will back the over.
Like most teams during the regular season, Boston picked apart the Pacers defense. We’ve already discussed Boston’s incredible shooting splits across those five games, and that efficiency led to 129.0 points per game. The numbers are even more impressive when you look at what Boston did against Indiana while playing at TD Garden, which included averaging 142.0 points per game while shooting 55.5% overall and 52.1% from three over a two-game span.
Believe it or not, advanced metrics show that the Pacers defense has gotten worse since those games were played, but those same metrics point to Indiana being an elite offensive team, one that owns the No.1 Offensive Rating in the postseason (121.7). As a result, points should come in bunches in Game 1.
The Play: Over 221 (-110)

News Around the League
🏆 NBA announces All-Rookie teams. San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama and Oklahoma City Thunder big man Chet Holmgren are among the five players named to the NBA's All-Rookie first team. They are joined by Brandon Miller of the Charlotte Hornets, Jaime Jaquez of the Miami Heat, and Brandin Podziemski of the Golden State Warriors. The All-Rookie second team includes players from Western Conference teams like Dereck Lively II of the Dallas Mavericks and GG Jackson II of the Memphis Grizzlies, with Lively leading the second team in votes.
👀 Multiple teams keeping their eyes on Julius Randle. NBA teams are closely watching Julius Randle's situation with the New York Knicks after he missed their playoff run due to a shoulder injury. Randle, who averaged 24 points, 9.2 rebounds, and five assists per game before his injury, has a player option for the 2025-26 season and is eligible for a significant extension. His salary makes him a potential trade asset for the Knicks, who are actively seeking to acquire a star player to strengthen their roster following their elimination from the playoffs.
