Featured Matchup🎰
Seattle Kraken @ New Jersey Devils
Model Predicts- Devils ML, OVER 6.5, Kraken +1.5
The Seattle Kraken will continue a four-game road trip on Monday, with the next stop coming in Newark, New Jersey to take on the Devils.
Seattle enters tonight’s matchup with a 21-20-10 record, most recently suffering a 3-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night. Meanwhile, New Jersey owns a 25-21-4 record, with the Devils’ most recent loss coming at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes in overtime.
Both squads are in the midst of a two-game losing streak, but our model expects the Devils to end their streak tonight. Let’s take a look at why that is.
Seattle Kraken
Enter tonight on two-game losing streak
Losses to Sharks and Flyers
-3 goal differential in that time
Defensive numbers hint at more regression
Own 1.21 GA/60 in 5-on-5 situations during losing streak, but xGA/60 in same situations is 2.71
Surrendering 12.08 high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes in 5-on-5 in last two games
Expected goalie- Joey Daccord
.938 Save % in 5-on-5 situations. Ranks 17th in Goals Saved Above Expected (GSAx) with +7.0
New Jersey Devils
Enter tonight on two-game losing streak
Losses to Flames and Hurricanes
-3 goal differential in that time
Offense due for positive regression
Own 2.98 xGF/60 in 5-on-5 since All-Star break ended (4th in NHL)
xGF/60 is 0.38 goals higher than GF/60
Expected goalie- Vitek Vanecek
.902 Save % in 5-on-5. Ranks 89th in GSAx (-11.1)
What’s the Play?
New Jersey is at a significant disadvantage in net tonight, but we agree with our model that the Devils can overcome that disadvantage and win tonight’s game.
Seattle’s defense has been solid for most of the season, but several metrics show that regression is on the way, largely in part because of the amount of high-danger chances that the Kraken are allowing in recent games. Those same statistics show that the Devils are due to start finding the back of the net more often, and tonight presents them with a great matchup to do so.
We’ll take the home favorite on the money line.
The Play: Devils ML (-140)

News Around the League
👨⚖️ Reilly to have in-person hearing for cross check. Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly faces a hearing on Tuesday for cross-checking Ottawa Senators forward Ridly Greig during their recent game. Rielly's potential suspension could exceed five games, a penalty comparable to Detroit Red Wings forward David Perron's six-game suspension earlier in the season for a similar offense against Artem Zub. The altercation, which stemmed from Greig's slap shot into the empty net, occurred in the final moments of the Maple Leafs' 5-3 loss, prompting conflicting views from both teams' coaches regarding the appropriateness of Rielly's reaction and Greig's actions.
🎶 Blues beat Canadiens by five goals. St. Louis Blues dominated the Montreal Canadiens with a 7-2 victory on Super Bowl Sunday, led by Jordan Kyrou's two goals and Torey Krug's remarkable five assists. Robert Thomas, Jake Neighbours, Colton Parayko, Alexey Toropchenko, and Nathan Walker also contributed to the Blues' win, with goalie Jordan Binnington making 30 saves. St. Louis, victorious in seven of their last eight games, displayed a cohesive performance on the ice, while Montreal struggled, losing their second consecutive game and continuing their poor record in back-to-back matchups this season.
