Featured Matchup🎰
Golden State Warriors @ Denver Nuggets
Model Predicts- Nuggets ML, OVER 226.5, Warriors +3
The Golden State Warriors will end a four-game road trip this evening, with the final stop coming in Denver to take on the Nuggets.
Golden State has gotten off to a tremendous start, entering tonight with a 6-2 record and going 2-1 on its current roadtrip. Denver is in a similar position, winning seven of its first eight games.
The injury report for this matchup has some big names on it, including Draymond Green, Nikola Jokic, and Jamal Murray. As a result, our model believes Golden State can make this a tightly contested game on the road. Let’s take a look at why that is.
Golden State Warriors
Have been one of the best all-around teams this season
Own +5.3 Net Rating- 7th in NBA
Rises to +7.5 on the road
Team has been much better on road than at home
Home- 103.5 Offensive Rating, 105.0 Defensive Rating
Road- 119.5 Offensive Rating, 112.0 Defensive Rating
Have made scoring difficult for opponents at all levels
Rank inside top 10 in opponent points per game in the paint (47.8) and opponent three-point % (33.3%)
Injuries- Draymond Green (Personal)
Denver Nuggets
Have looked unstoppable this season
+11.8 Net Rating- 3rd in NBA
119.2 Offensive Rating, 107.5 Defensive Rating
However, have big names on injury report
Jamal Murray is out, Nikola Jokic is questionable
Won without Murray on Monday, but it wasn’t easy
Outscored 71-59 in first half against New Orleans, who was without CJ McCollum
Needed Pelicans second half collapse and Jokic triple double (35 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists) to pull off comeback
What’s the Play?
We all know that Nikola Jokic is capable of carrying this Nuggets team to victory, as we saw him do earlier this week. However, the absence of Murray proved that Denver may be at a disadvantage in the backcourt moving forward, and we think that will be the difference maker tonight.
Denver’s backcourt depth consists of Reggie Jackson, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Collin Gillespie, Christian Braun, Peyton Watson, and Julian Strawther. Four of those guys are either in their first or second year, and only two are true ball handlers while the rest tend to play off the ball.
That sets up plenty of mismatches from a scoring standpoint tonight, as Steph Curry, Chris Paul, and Klay Thompson have the upper hand on the offensive end of the floor against a young group. That should enable Golden State to keep things close tonight, so we’ll back them on the spread.
The Play: Warriors +3 (-110)
