Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (Ray Seebeck/USA TODAY Sports)

Today’s Model Predictions

There is one NFL game scheduled to take place today, a Super Bowl rematch between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. Our model’s predictions for tonight’s matchup can be found below.

Featured Matchup🎰

Philadelphia Eagles @ Kansas City Chiefs
Model Predicts- Chiefs ML, UNDER 45.5, Chiefs -2.5

The Philadelphia Eagles will make the journey to Kansas City, Missouri on Monday for a Super Bowl rematch with the Chiefs.

Philadelphia enters this week with a stellar 8-1 record, the best in the NFL. However, the Chiefs aren’t far behind, posting a 7-2 record through nine games following a win over the Dolphins in Germany two weeks ago.

Both the Eagles and Chiefs have had plenty of time to prepare for this matchup, with both teams coming off a bye, but our model likes the Chiefs to cover the spread as home favorites. Let’s take a look ay why that is.

Philadelphia Eagles
  • One loss this season, but plenty of close calls

    • Nearly lost to Dallas in Week 9. Six of nine games decided by one score or less

  • Elite offense responsible for nearly perfect record

    • Rank 4th in EPA/play

    • Strength is the run game- Run ball on 47% of plays. Rank 4th in rush success rate, 5th in EPA/rush

  • Defense great at generating pressure, but has been lit up through the air

    • Rank 5th in pass rush win rate

    • Surrender 5th most pass yards per game (257). Up to 306.7 in last three weeks

Kansas City Chiefs
  • Have gone 7-1 since Week 1 loss to Lions

    • +66 point differential in that time

    • Loss came on road to Broncos in Week 8

  • Offensive line gives Patrick Mahomes tons of time

    • Rank 1st in pass block win rate, allow second-fewest sacks per game

  • Defense is great against pass, bad against run

What’s the Play?

Last season’s Super Bowl came down to the final possession, and it’s likely that will be the case again tonight. As a result, we’ll take the the Chiefs on the spread, as long as it stays under a field goal.

Patrick Mahomes doesn’t have the offensive weapons were used to seeing seeing him possess, but an improved offensive line has made everything run smoothly. Philadelphia’s best asset defensively is the pass rush, but it won’t be easy getting through the Kansas City line today, giving Mahomes plenty of time to dissect a weak Eagles pass defense.

Philadelphia might find success on the ground, but it has yet to prove it can stop the pass and that will allow the Chiefs to take the lead at any moment. We’ll take the home favorite at an under a field goal, and if the spread reaches three then we’ll take the Chiefs money line.

The Play: Chiefs -2.5 (-110)

News Around the League

😬 Jets bench Wilson in loss to Bills. New York Jets coach Robert Saleh benched Zach Wilson during the team's recent loss to the Buffalo Bills. Wilson's performance was lackluster, managing only 7 completions out of 15 passes for 81 yards, with one touchdown and an interception, resulting in a low passing rating of 57.9. Wilson, picked second overall in the 2021 NFL draft, has faced ongoing challenges, completing only 56% of his career passes, throwing 20 touchdowns against 24 interceptions, and holding an 11-19 record as a starting quarterback.

🤕 Kupp injures ankle in comeback win. Los Angeles Rams' standout wide receiver Cooper Kupp exited Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks due to an ankle injury. Despite receiving immediate medical attention and returning briefly to the sideline post-halftime, he didn't rejoin the Rams' offensive lineup for the second half. Kupp had already missed the first four games of the 2023 season with a hamstring injury, and is now in jeopardy of missing more time.

Today’s Model Predictions

Another week of NBA basketball begins today, with eight games scheduled to take place this evening. Our model’s predictions for all eight matchups can be found below.

Featured Matchup🎰

Denver Nuggets @ Detroit Pistons
Model Predicts- Nuggets ML, UNDER 225, Pistons +9

The Denver Nuggets will continue their five-game road trip on Monday, stopping in New York to take on the Pistons.

The first two legs of Denver’s road trip have not been the version of the Nuggets were used to seeing, as the team fell short to the Pelicans and Cavaliers. On the other hand, the version of the Pistons that we have seen recently is the version we do expect, with Detroit entering today on an 11-game losing streak.

It’s hard to justify placing any bet on the Pistons at the moment, but our model has spotted some value on the total in tonight’s matchup. Let’s take a look at why that is.

Denver Nuggets
  • Have lost last two games

    • First losing streak of season

    • -17 point differential and -7.5 Net Rating in two-game stretch

  • Still without Jamal Murray

    • Have gone 4-3 since his absence

    • Struggling to shoot three- 35.5% in 7 games without him

  • Offense in general has been a struggle on the road

    • 122.2 Offensive Rating at home vs 110.4 Offensive Rating on road

    • 118.6 points per game at home vs 108.0 on road

Detroit Pistons
  • Enter today on 11-game losing streak

    • Have not won since October 28th

    • -10.6 Net Rating in that stretch

    • Shooting 46.2% from the floor and 34.9% from three

  • Have surprising amount of scoring depth

  • Still dealing with injuries

    • Bojan Bogdanovic is out, five additional players listed as game time decisions

What’s the Play?

Neither Denver nor Detroit is playing great basketball at the moment, and that is why we agree with our model that we should target the under here.

Just like last season, Denver’s home/road splits are staggering, as this is an entirely different team when travel is involved. The absence of Jamal Murray has changed the way this offense is run too, making scoring a slightly more challenging task.

As for Detroit, there simply isn’t enough firepower in this lineup to run up the score consistently. The depth is there, but Cade Cunningham is the only player on the roster averaging more than 15 points per game.

This is the second game in two nights for both teams as well, so it could easily be one of the sloppier games we see this season. We’ll back the under.

The Play: Under 225 (-110)

News Around the League

💪 Cavs beat Nuggets without Mitchell. Darius Garland's 26 points and undrafted rookie Craig Porter Jr.'s career-best 21 points led the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 121-109 win against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday. Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen also made significant contributions, building a substantial lead and securing their third consecutive victory. Despite Nikola Jokic's 18 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists for the Nuggets, foul trouble and defensive challenges hindered their performance, while Cleveland capitalized on strong defensive play and rebounds to dominate the game.

🦖 Raptors hand Pistons 11th straight loss. Pascal Siakam notched 23 points, while Scottie Barnes and Dennis Schroder contributed 17 each, leading the Toronto Raptors to a dominant 142-113 victory over the struggling Detroit Pistons. The loss was the 11th consecutive for Detroit, who last won on October 28th. Barnes led Toronto with nine assists, contributing to the Raptors setting a new franchise record of 44 assists, surpassing Detroit's total made baskets of 39, showcasing exceptional teamwork and ball movement throughout the game.

Today’s Model Predictions

The NHL begins the week rather slowly, giving us seven games to bet on today. Our model’s predictions for today’s matchups are below.

Featured Matchup🎰

New York Rangers @ Dallas Stars
Model Predicts- Rangers ML, UNDER 6, Rangers +1.5

The New York Rangers will continue a four-game road trip on Monday, with the next stop coming in Dallas to take on the Stars.

New York enters Monday’s matchup with a 12-2-1 record, good enough for first place in the Metropolitan division. Dallas also sits atop its divison, the Central, with a similar record to New York at 11-4-1.

Both the Rangers and Stars are in contention for the Stanley Cup this season, but our model believes that New York has the edge today. Let’s take a look at why that is and see our model’s best bet for this matchup.

New York Rangers
  • Enter today on four-game win streak

    • Beat Red Wings, Wild, Blue Jackets, and Devils

    • +8 goal differential in that time

  • Defense has been elite

    • Rank 12th in xGA/60 in 5-on-5 situations (Natural Stat Trick)

    • Surrender ninth-fewest high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes (HDCA/60) in 5-on-5

  • Expected goalie- Igor Shesterkin

    • .925 Save % and .800 High-Danger Save % in 5-on-5

    • Ranks 14th in Goals Saved Above Expected (GSAx) with +3.4

Dallas Stars
  • Haven’t played great hockey at home

    • 4-3 at home vs 7-1-1 on road

  • Defense is great regardless of where they play

    • 2.26 xGA/60 in 5-on-5 at home this season, 2.43 on the road

    • Rank 6th in HDCA/60 in 5-on-5

  • Expected goalie- Jake Oettinger

    • .907 Save % and .809 High-Danger Save % in 5-on-5

    • Ranks 11th in GSAx (+4.8)

What’s the Play?

Defense is strength of both teams tonight, which is why we will back our model’s prediction of the under at its current total of six.

Neither New York nor Dallas allows pressure near the crease, resulting in very few high-quality scoring chances for opponents. Even when a puck gets through the defense, it has been a tall task to get through Shesterkin and Oettinger, who both own a goals allowed average at 2.50 or less.

Expect a gritty performance from both teams tonight, resulting in a low-scoring contest.

The Play: Under 6 (-120)
