Today’s Model Predictions

Two NFL games are scheduled to take place today. Our model’s predictions for both matchups can be found below.

Featured Matchup🎰

Kansas City Chiefs @ Buffalo Bills
Model Predicts- Bills ML, UNDER 45.5, Chiefs +2.5

The Kansas City will make the journey to Buffalo, New York to battle the Bills on Sunday night.

Kansas City enters tonight’s matchup fresh off a 26-7 win over the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card round, its fourth win in the last five games. Buffalo is in a similar position entering tonight’s matchup, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-17 last Monday for its sixth-straight win.

Kansas City has had a few extra days of rest due to weather postponing Buffalo’s last games, but our model believes the Bills will still win today’s matchup. Let’s take a look at why that is.

Kansas City Chiefs
  • Dominated Miami last week'

    • Outgained Dolphins 409-264

    • 147 yards on ground, 262 through air

  • Lost to Buffalo already this season

    • 20-17 loss in Week 14

    • Outgained Buffalo 346-327, but had ball for 10 minutes less

  • Injuries- Kadarius Toney and Derrick Nnadi both OUT, Willie Gay questionable

Buffalo Bills
  • Beat Pittsburgh last week for 6th straight win

    • +53 point differential in that span of time

  • Steelers moved ball well on Buffalo despite loss

    • 324 total yards of offense

    • Rudolph endzone interception made game feel more out of reach than it really was

    • Bills defense now surrendering 5.4 yards per play over last three games

  • Injuries- Gabe Davis (OUT), Terrel Bernard, Taron Johnson, Rasul Douglas all questionable

What’s the Play?

Buffalo snuck out a three-point victory over Kansas City last time out, but we agree with our model that the Chiefs can close that keep and stay inside 2.5 points here.

We don’t often get the opportunity to bet Patrick Mahomes as an underdog, but today is one of those days. Mahomes has thrived in those situations, going 8-4 straight up and 9-2-1 against the spread when Kansas City is not a favorite, per Fox Sports.

Kansas City doesn’t have the offensive weapons were used to seeing it have, but the emergence of Rashee Rice alongside Travis Kelce makes this a dynamic offense that can attack a Bills defense that will allow its opponents to move the ball down field in large chunks. That, combined with the Chiefs defense ranking inside the top-six in EPA/play and success rate, should enable Kansas City to keep things close here.

The Play: Chiefs +2.5 (-110)

News Around the League

💪 49ers advance to NFC Championship with comeback against Packers. Brock Purdy struggled with accuracy throughout the game, and the San Francisco defense faced challenges, including special teams blunders. However, in a stunning turn, the top-seeded 49ers managed a late-game comeback against the Green Bay Packers. Christian McCaffrey's second touchdown in the final moments secured a 24-21 victory, propelling the Niners to their third consecutive NFC championship game, which they will host this time after two previous road losses.

🏈 Jackson leads Ravens to home win over Texans. Lamar Jackson led the Baltimore Ravens to a dominant 34-10 victory over the Houston Texans, securing their spot in the AFC championship game. Jackson threw two touchdown passes, ran for two scores, and made history as the first quarterback since at least 1948 to achieve two touchdown passes, two TD runs, 100 yards rushing, and a 100 passer rating in the same game. The Ravens, now 14-4, will host the AFC title game for the first time since 1971, facing the winner of the matchup between Buffalo and Kansas City.

On This Day in History🗓

NBA Legend Kobe Bryant (Getty IMages)

Anyone know what has happened on January 21st throughout history? We didn’t have a clue either, but it appears that it has been a busy day.

On January 21st…

2004- The Minnesota Wild set the NHL record for the two fastest goals. The record was set when Jim Dowd and Richard Park found the back of the net just three seconds apart in the final 15 seconds of a game against the Chicago Blackhawks. Minnesota would win the game 4-2.

2010- Kobe Bryant becomes the youngest player in NBA history to reach 25,000 points. Bryant accomplished the feat at 31 years and 151 days old, beating Wilt Chamberlain by 35 days. He would end his career with 33,643 career points, the fourth-most in NBA history.

2019- Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson makes his first 10 three-point attempts in a game against the Los Angeles Lakers. The performance set a new NBA record, and was a huge piece in Golden State’s 130-111 win. Thompson would finish the game with 44 points.
