Today’s Model Predictions

The 13th edition of Monday Night Football will take place this evening with the Seattle Seahawks taking on the Dallas Cowboys. Our model’s predictions for tonight’s games can be found below.

Featured Matchup🎰

Seattle Seahawks @ Dallas Cowboys
Model Predicts- Cowboys ML, UNDER 47.5, Cowboys -9

The Seattle Seahawks will hit the road on Thursday, traveling to Dallas, Texas to take on the Cowboys on Thursday Night Football.

Seattle enters tonight’s matchup off a blowout loss to the 49ers on Thanksgiving, but the Seahawks 6-5 record has the team in the second Wild Card spot as we enter Week 13. On the other sideline is the Dallas Cowboys, who just won by 35 points on Thanksgiving and own an 8-3 record.

Dallas has been dominant at home this season, and our model expects that trend to continue tonight. Let’s take a look at why that is.

Seattle Seahawks
  • Coming off brutal division loss last week

    • Lost 31-13 to 49ers. Third loss in last four games

    • Out-gained 377-220

  • Mediocre on both sides of ball

    • Offense and defense rank 20th in EPA/play

    • Struggles on both sides have resulted in average win margin of -1.8, even with winning record

  • Crucial injuries on both sides of ball

    • Kenneth Walker doubtful, Phil Haynes out, Leonard Williams questionable

Dallas Cowboys
  • Blew out Washington on Thanksgiving

    • Won by 35 points. Scored 25 points in fourth quarter alone

  • Elite at home this season

    • Beat opponents by 29 points per game at home, compared to just 2.8 on road

    • 6.5 yards per play- 3rd best in NFL

    • Perfect 5-0 record

  • Strong defense will be biggest difference maker

What’s the Play?

The Dallas Cowboys on their home field might be the best team in football, and we agree with our model that they can cover the lofty spread tonight.

One thing that Seattle is going to struggle with is stopping Dallas’ pass rush. The Seahawks enter tonight’s battle ranked 20th in pass block win rate, and things will only become more difficult without Haynes in the lineup. Additionally, Seattle has been outscored 68-16 this month when facing a defense ranked inside the top-5 in opponent EPA/play, and Dallas is another opponent that satisfies that ranking.

Dallas is better on both sides of the ball and has the health advantage in this one. We don’t anticipate another 35 point win, but the Cowboys winning by double digits isn’t out of the question.

The Play: Cowboys -9 (-110)

News Around the League

💪 Rodgers returns to Jets practice. Jets' quarterback Aaron Rodgers returned to practice on Wednesday in a limited capacity, marking the commencement of a 21-day practice window. Rodgers, who joined the Jets after an 18-season stint with the Packers, suffered a left Achilles tendon injury during the season opener against the Bills in September, subsequently undergoing surgery. Rodgers has been gradually advancing in his recovery, working on drills and individual exercises similar to what he'd perform on a side field but now transitioning to throwing to teammates during practice sessions.

🦅 Desean Jackson announces retirement from NFL. Former Pro Bowl wide receiver DeSean Jackson announced his retirement on Wednesday, saying that he will retire as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. As a result, Philly will honor him as an honorary captain during their upcoming game against the 49ers at Lincoln Financial Field. Jackson, who spent eight of his 15 seasons in the NFL with the Eagles, was recognized for his remarkable speed and skills both as a receiver and returner, leading the league in yards per reception on four occasions.

Today’s Model Predictions

After only three games yesterday, the NHL has given us a loaded 14-game slate for Thursday. Our model’s predictions for tonight’s matchups can be found below.

Featured Matchup🎰

Minnesota Wild @ Nashville Predators
Model Predicts- Predators ML, OVER 6, Wild +1.5

The Minnesota Wild will hit the road on Thursday for just one game, stopping in Nashville, Tennessee to take on the Predators.

Minnesota enters tonight’s matchup in the midst of a brutal season, posting a 6-10-4 record through 20 games. Meanwhile, Nashville has had some better luck, owning an 11-10 record thanks to the Predators’ current six-game win streak.

Minnesota and Nashville are trending in opposite directions, but we are more concerned with the total in this matchup as opposed to picking a side. Let’s dive into why that is

Minnesota Wild
  • Ended seven-game losing streak in last game

    • Beat Blues 3-1

    • Outscored 28-13 during losing streak

  • Struggle in many areas defensively

    • Rank 22nd in GA/60 in 5-on-5 situations

    • Worst penalty kill in league- Allow goal on 31.5% of power plays

  • Expected goalie- Filip Gustavsson

    • .899 Save % in 5-on-5. Ranks 66th in Goals Saved Above Expected (GSAx) with -5.1

Nashville Predators
  • Hottest team in NHL right now

    • 6-0 in last six games

    • Rank 4th in GF/60 and 9th in GA/60 in 5-on-5 during win streak

  • Defense has gotten lucky over last six games

    • xGA/60 in 5-on-5 sits 0.71 goals higher than GA/60

    • 11.85 high-danger scoring chances against per 60 minutes (HDCA/60) ranks 24th in NHL

  • Expected goalie- Juuse Saros

    • .918 Save % in 5-on-5. Ranks 68th in GSAx (-5.6)

What’s the Play?

Our model believes the Predators will extend their winning streak to seven games today, but we’re going to back the over here.

On the surface, Nashville has been great defensively, but the underlying metrics show a team that is due for regression. The gap between the Preds’ GA/60 and xGA/60 in 5-on-5 indicates this, and their inability to stop high-danger scoring chances will likely put Saros in a tough spot.

Gustavsson and Saros have both been unreliable in net this season, a surprise considering both ranked within the top-seven in GSAx a season ago. Both have a defense with question marks in front of them as well, so we’ll take the over in this spot.

The Play: Over 6 (-110)

Today’s Model Predictions

A busy day of NBA basketball will take place today, with 18 teams hitting the hardwood. Our model’s predictions for today’s matchups can be found below.

Featured Matchup🎰

Los Angeles Lakers @ Oklahoma City Thunder
Model Predicts- Thunder ML, UNDER 233.5, Thunder -5.5

The Los Angeles Lakers will end their four-game road trip on Thursday night, with the final stop coming in Oklahoma City to take on the Thunder.

L.A.’s road trip has gone well thus far, securing wins over the Cleveland and Detroit, but suffering a blowout loss to the 76ers. The Lakers are now 11-8 this season, while the Thunder own a 11-6 record and sit in fourth in the Western Conference.

Despite some success on their road trip, the Lakers have had plenty of struggles on the road this season, and our model believes those struggles will continue tonight. Let’s take a look at why that is.

Los Angeles Lakers
  • Blowout win over Pistons last night

    • LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and D’Angelo Russell scored 88 of team’s 133 points

    • Shot 51% overall and 35% from three in game

  • Completely different team while on road

    • Own +6.8 Net Rating at home, but -7.0 Net rating on road

    • 7-2 at home this season, 4-6 on the road

  • Still dealing with injuries

    • Will be without Rui Hachimura and Gabe Vincent. Jarred Vanderbilt and Jaxson Hayes questionable

Oklahoma City Thunder
  • Have lost two consecutive games

    • Defeated by 76ers and Timberwolves. Have lost by combined seven points

  • Have been best team in NBA over last ten games even with last two losses

    • Rank first in Net Rating (+12.8) in that stretch. 3.8 points higher than any other team

    • Shooting blazing 41.3% from three

  • Elite defensive team

What’s the Play?

The Lakers are coming off a dominant win, but we agree with our model that the Thunder can win and cover the spread here.

The Lakers’ road struggles this season are eye-opening, with a 13.8 swing in Net Rating while on the road proving that this team struggles while on an opponents court. Additionally, the injuries impacting the Lakers do significant damage to a team that already lacks depth, ranking 23rd in bench points per game, so it will be tough to keep up with the Thunder.

Oklahoma City’s two recent losses came against two of the best teams in the NBA, and the Thunder have the rest advantage here. Our model projects OKC to win by almost nine points, so we’ll back them on the spread at 5.5.

The Play: Thunder -5.5 (-110)

News Around the League

😬 Pistons lose 15th straight game. D'Angelo Russell led the Los Angeles Lakers to a decisive 133-107 victory over the Detroit Pistons, marking the Pistons' record-breaking 15th consecutive loss. Alongside Russell was Anthony Davis and LeBron James scoring at least 25 points, further highlighting L.A.’s dominance in the matchup. The loss set a new franchise record for Detroit, surpassing previous 14-game losing streaks in multiple seasons, including 2021-22, 1993-94, and 1979-80.

💪 Nuggets beat Rockets in Murray’s return. Nikola Jokic's stellar performance of 32 points, 15 assists, and 10 rebounds, combined with Michael Porter Jr.'s impressive 30-point contribution, propelled the Denver Nuggets to a dominant victory over the Houston Rockets last night. Jamal Murray, who missed several games with a hamstring injury, also returned to the floor last night, scoring 16 points. Denver is now a perfect 9-0 at home this season, joining Boston as the only undefeated teams on their home court.
