Today’s Model Predictions
Today is one of the worst days to be a sports fan, as the NBA is the only league with games scheduled. You can see our model’s predictions for tonight’s matchups below.
Featured Matchup🎰
Indiana Pacers @ Atlanta Hawks
Model Predicts- Pacers ML, UNDER 251, Pacers +3.5
The Indiana Pacers will hit the road for just one game to take on the Hawks in Atlanta on Tuesday night.
Indiana enters tonight’s matchup with a 7-5 record, good enough for sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, the Hawks sit at 6-6, a result of losing three out of the last four games.
Neither Indiana nor Atlanta has played stellar defense this season, but our model believes the Pacers can squeeze out a victory on the road. Let’s see why that is.
Indiana Pacers
Elite team on offensive end
Rank first in Offensive Rating (120.7)
Can score from all levels- shooting 49.5% overall and 37.8% from three
Incredible amount of scoring depth
Eight players average at least 10.0 points per game
Rank first in bench points per game (50.8)- Six points more than any other team
Oftentimes in shootout due to lack of defensive presence
Surrender 123.8 points per game
Opponents shooting 49% overall and 38.1% from three
Surrender most points per game in paint (62.7)
Atlanta Hawks
Built similarly to Pacers
Seven players average at least 10.0 points per game
Rank sixth in Offensive Rating, but rank in bottom ten defensively
Opponents have scored from just about everywhere
Allow sixth-most points per game in paint
Opponents shooting 37.0% from three
Defense has been far worse across last four games
Own 119.8 Defensive Rating and -14 point differential in that time
What’s the Play?
Both the Pacers’ and Hawks’ play on the defensive end progressively gets worse with each passing day, a large reason for why tonight’s total sits at 251. However, we agree with our model that Indiana can at least keep things close.
Both teams can be exposed inside, but Indiana has had far more success executing in the painted area. Per TeamRankings, the Pacers rank fourth in points per game in the paint (56.8) compared to Atlanta’s 13th ranking, a result of Indiana shooting an efficient 64.6% when less than five feet from the basket.
Outside of the painted area, the similarities between these teams is scary, and it’s hard to imagine either one being able to create much separation. That helps the underdog out in this spot, so we’ll take the Pacers on the spread.
The Play: Pacers +3.5 (-105)

Baltimore Orioles legend Eddie Murray (Getty Images)
Anyone know what has happened on November 21st throughout history? We didn’t have a clue either, but it appears that it has been a busy day.
On November 21st…
1971- The New York Rangers score eight goals in one period, setting a new NHL record. The eight-goal outburst came in the third period against the California Seals, a game New York won 12-1. The record would be tied several times throughout NHL history, but was eventually broken when the Buffalo Sabres scored nine goals in one period in a 14-4 rout of the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 1980-81 season.
1973- Cincinnati Reds star Pete Rose is named NL MVP. It was the first and only MVP of Rose’s career, a result of leading the league in hits (230) and batting average (.338). Rose would go on to play 13 more seasons after his MVP victory, finishing in the top-15 in MVP voting an additional six times.
1977- Baltimore Orioles first baseman Eddie Murray wins the AL Rookie of the Year award. Murray was well deserving of the honor, notching 27 home runs and 88 RBIs for an Orioles team that finished the season with a 97-64 record. Murray would go on to play 21 seasons in the MLB for six different teams, and coached the Orioles, Indians, and Dodgers after retirement.
