Featured Matchup🎰

Indiana Pacers @ Milwaukee Bucks
Model Predicts- Pacers ML, OVER 214.5, Pacers -4

The Milwaukee Bucks and Indiana Pacers will continue their best-of-seven series on Tuesday night, squaring off in Game 5 as the series shifts back to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Indiana enters Tuesday’s matchup on the verge of winning the series, ripping off three consecutive wins after losing Game 1 to take a 3-1 series lead. The Pacers are now 7-2 against the Bucks this season when regular season wins are included, showing that Indiana’s dominance over Milwaukee goes well beyond just this series.

Even with the shift in venue favoring the Bucks, our model projects the Pacers to close out the series tonight in a high-scoring game. Let’s take a look at why that is.

Indiana Pacers
  • Defended home court in Game 4

    • Won 126-113. +3 point differential in first half, +10 in second half

    • Shot ball with incredible efficiency- 52% overall, 51% from three

  • Have now won three straight games over Milwaukee

    • Own +10.6 Net Rating in that span- 3rd best in NBA

    • Dominating offensively- 128.7 Offensive Rating. Shooting 49.6% overall and 39.8% from three

  • Injuries- Tyrese Haliburton is questionable, Benedict Mathurin is OUT

Milwaukee Bucks
  • Defense continues to be massive problem

    • Own 121.0 Defensive Rating in postseason- ranks 15th amongst 16 playoff teams

    • Ranked 19th in Defensive Rating in regular season

  • Still keeping up with Indiana offensively even with injuries to key players

    • 118.5 Offensive Rating in last two games. Have scored 113 points or more in each contest

    • Showcasing more depth without Lillard in lineup- five players averaging at least 10.0 points per game over last two games. Middleton leading way with 33.5

  • Injuries- Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Damian Lillard are doubtful, Khris Middleton and Patrick Beverley are questionable

What’s the Play?

Milwaukee is surrounded by a ton of question marks as it faces elimination, making it a bit of a challenge to find a read on this game. However, we agree with our model that this is set to be another high-scoring contest.

Milwaukee and Indiana each had massive holes on the defensive end during the regular season, and those struggles have carried over into the postseason. We’ve already dove into Milwaukee’s defensive woes, but Indiana’s are just as bad, as evidenced by the Pacers’ 116.4 Defensive Rating in this series, which ranks 12th amongst the 16 playoff teams.

The regular season series between these two squads saw nothing but points, with the average point total coming in at 254 across five games. That average has fallen to 228.5 in the postseason, but both teams are still finding ways to score consistently against weak defenses, making the over a viable play once again.

The Play: Over 214.5 (-110)

On This Day in History🗓

Former Detroit Pistons point guard Isiah Thomas (NBA.com)

Anyone know what has happened on April 30th throughout history? We didn’t have a clue either, but it appears that it has been a busy day.

On April 30th…

1961- Former NBA point guard Isiah Thomas is born in Chicago, Illinois. Thomas rose to stardom in his high school days at St. Joseph High School, and would eventually play college basketball for the Indiana Hoosiers, the school he led to a national title in 1981. Thomas would declare for the NBA Draft shortly after that championship victory, and was taken second overall by the Detroit Pistons, who he played his entire NBA career for.

2022- The San Francisco 49ers select Brock Purdy with the last pick of the NFL Draft. The selection made Purdy the draft’s “Mr. Irrelevant”, the nickname given to the last player selected. However, Purdy has been far from irrelevant since entering the NFL, taking the 49ers to the NFC Championship game in each of his first two seasons, along with one Super Bowl.

2023- The Seattle Kraken eliminate the Colorado Avalanche from the playoffs. Seattle took down Colorado in seven games, which included picking up three wins on the road. The series win was the first for the Kraken in franchise history, and Seattle became the first NHL franchise to earn its first-ever playoff series win against the reigning Stanley Cup champion.
