Today’s Model Predictions
Nine NBA games are scheduled to take place today. Our model’s predictions for all nine matchups can be found below.

Featured Matchup🎰
Phoenix Suns @ Brooklyn Nets
Model Predicts- Suns ML, OVER 219.5, Nets +10.5
The Phoenix Suns will wrap up their five-game road trip on Wednesday, with the third and final stop coming in Brooklyn, New York to battle the Nets.
Phoenix has produced mixed results thus far on its road trip, recording two wins and two losses across four games. That stretch has brought the Suns’ record to 21-21 for the season, while the Nets sit much lower in the standings at 14-30.
Our model projects the Nets to cover the spread here as a large home underdog, but our eyes are on the total in this matchup. Let’s dive into why that is.
Phoenix Suns
Have won two of four games on road trip
Wins over Wizards and Pistons. Losses to Hawks and Cavaliers
Own -32 point differential in that span
Offense has been elite across the last seven games
Own 118.0 Offensive Rating since January 9th- ranks 10th in NBA
Shooting 51.0% overall (2nd in NBA) and 38.7% from three (7th in NBA). Has led to 117.3 points/game
Injury report continues to remain relatively clear
Jusuf Nurkic is OUT. Bradley Beal is questionable
Brooklyn Nets
Enter tonight on four-game losing streak
Losses to Clippers, Lakers, Thunder, and Knicks
Own -90 point differential in that span
Play on defensive end has been catalyst for poor stretch
Rank 25th in Defensive Rating across last four games (119.2)
Opponents shooting 50.4% overall and 37.2% from three
May get some key players back in lineup tonight
Cam Thomas and Zaire Williams are both OUT, but Trendon Watford, Ben Simmons are questionable while Cam Johnson is set to play
What’s the Play?
Brooklyn has been a tough team to predict as of late, but we agree with our model that the Nets will do enough scoring alongside the Suns to hit the over here.
The Nets own a horrific 95.8 Offensive Rating during their four-game losing streak, but the Suns’ poor defense as of late gives the Nets a chance to get the lid off the basket. Per NBA.com, the Suns own a 118.9 Defensive Rating during their road trip, ranking 24th in the NBA in that span. In that time we’ve seen Phoenix’s opponents shoot 46% from the floor and 36% from three, and we think those weaknesses will enable the Nets to finally start putting up some points.
Additionally, Cam Johnson being back in the lineup gives the Nets more offensive fire power, and more help could be on the way if more players are cleared.
In summary, the Suns shouldn’t face any resistance tonight, but Brooklyn can certainly expose Phoenix’s weak defense. Our model projects 225 points to be scored here, giving us room to back the over at 219.5.
The Play: Over 219.5 (-110)

News Around the League
☀️ Suns trade unprotected pick to Jazz for additional draft picks. The Phoenix Suns traded their unprotected 2031 first-round pick to the Utah Jazz in exchange for three less favorable first-round picks in 2025, 2027, and 2029 from the Cavaliers, Timberwolves, and Jazz. This move enhances the Suns' tradable draft capital, a critical step toward a potential trade for Miami Heat veteran Jimmy Butler, which could involve multiple teams. Meanwhile, the Jazz added to their growing pool of first-round picks, now totaling 11 over the next seven drafts.
🤕 Risacher set to be sidelined for another week. Atlanta Hawks rookie Zaccharie Risacher, sidelined by a left adductor strain, will be re-evaluated in one week, missing several upcoming games as he continues his rehab. The 19-year-old No. 1 pick has shown potential but struggled with scoring consistency, averaging 10.5 points on 40.3% shooting and 28.1% from three-point range. The Hawks, who have won three of their last four games, face a busy schedule with five games in seven days, starting with a home matchup against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.

On This Day in History🗓

Former New Orleans Pelicans star DeMarcus Cousins (Getty Images)
Anyone know what has happened on January 22nd throughout history? We didn’t have a clue either, but it appears that it has been a busy day.
On January 22nd…
2006- Kobe Bryant scores 81 points in the Lakers victory over the Toronto Raptors. Bryant dominated the game from the jump, shooting 60.8% from the floor and 90% from the free throw line. The performance is the second-highest scoring output in NBA history behind Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 points.
2017- The Atlanta Flacons beat the Green Bay Packers 44-21 in the NFC Championship game. Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was the star of the game, throwing for 392 yards and four touchdowns in the contest. Atlanta would then go on to lose the Super Bowl to the New England Patriots, the same game they held a 28-3 lead in.
2018- DeMarcus Cousins tallies 44 points, 24 rebounds, and 10 assists in a 132-128 win over the Chicago Bulls. The performance came in part due to two overtime periods, with Cousins shooting 13/29 overall and 13/14 from the free throw line in the game. He would be the first player since Kareem Abdul-Jabaar in 1972 to record 40+ points, 20+ rebounds, and 10+ assists in a single game.
