Featured Matchup🎰

Boston Celtics @ Dallas Mavericks
Model Predicts- Celtics ML, OVER 211.5, Celtics +1

The Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks will continue their best-of-seven series on Friday night, with Game 4 set to tip-off in Dallas, Texas at 8:30 PM Eastern.

Boston enters tonight’s matchup with a commanding 3-0 series lead, putting the Celtics just one win away from winning the franchise’s 18th title and first since 2008. On the other hand, the Mavericks have quite the uphill battle ahead of them, as no team has come back from down 3-0 to win the NBA Finals.

The Celtics have dominated this series from almost every angle, and our model expects that to be the case again as it it predicting Boston to close out the series tonight. Let’s dive into why that is.

Boston Celtics
  • Enter tonight with 3-0 series lead

    • Outscored Dallas 107-89 in Game 1, 105-98 in Game 2, and 106-99 in Game 3

    • Own +11.4 Net Rating in series

  • Suffocating defense has been key to dominance

    • Own 102.1 Defensive Rating in series- second best vs any opponent in postseason

    • Dominating Dallas on the perimeter- holding Mavericks to shooting 28.2% from three

  • Injuries- Kristaps Porzingis is questionable

Dallas Mavericks
  • Offensive production is at a postseason low

    • Vs Clippers- 115.9 Offensive Rating, 107.0 PPG

    • Vs Thunder- 112.0 Offensive Rating, 106.0 PPG

    • vs Timberwolves- 118.3 Offensive Rating, 111.4 PPG

    • vs Celtics- 102.1 Offensive Rating, 95.3 PPG

  • Three-pointer was crucial piece to offense, but has disappeared in Finals

    • Shot 37.2% from three in first three rounds- 5th best mark amongst all postseason teams

    • Has dropped to 28.2% over last three games. Has resulted in scoring less than 100 points in every matchup

  • Injuries- Luka Doncic is questionable, Greg Brown is OUT

What’s the Play?

We can no longer back the Celtics at plus money, but our model still spots value on Boston’s money line at -110 odds, and we believe that is the bet with the most value tonight.

Game 3 of this series looked like a blowout before the Mavericks made it interesting late, but the end result of that matchup only hammered home the point that the Celtics have a massive edge over this Mavericks team. As was mentioned in past newsletters, Boston was a perfect 2-0 against Dallas in the regular season with a +18.5 Net Rating, and that level of dominance has only carried over into this series, even with Porzingis being far less than 100%.

Boston’s defense is simply too good, and has done more than enough to take away Dallas’ greatest strength in these playoffs, which is the three-pointer. We don’t expect that to change tonight, so we will back the Celtics on the money line to close out the series.

The Play: Celtics ML (-110)

🎤 JJ Redick to formally interview for Lakers head coach position. After Dan Hurley declined a $70-million contract offer, the Los Angeles Lakers are set to formally interview JJ Redick for their head coaching position, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. 👨‍⚖️ NBA prospect Terrence Shannon Jr. found not guilty in court. Former Illinois standout Terrence Shannon Jr., a potential first-round NBA draft pick, was found not guilty of a rape charge after a jury in Douglas County, Kansas, deliberated for less than two hours. Shannon had been accused of sexual assault during a visit to Kansas for a football game, leading to a suspension that was later overturned by a federal judge who ruled his civil rights were violated. Despite the allegations, Shannon testified he did not know the accuser and maintained his innocence, with his lawyers criticizing the lack of evidence and the investigation's thoroughness; many NBA scouts were closely monitoring the case ahead of the upcoming draft.

The Detroit Pistons celebrate winning the NBA Finals (CBS Detroit)

Anyone know what has happened on June 14th throughout history? We didn’t have a clue either, but it appears that it has been a busy day.

On June 14th…

1974- Nolan Ryan strikes out 19 batters in 13 innings in a 4-3 Angels win over the Red Sox. Ryan faced an incredible 58 batters in the game, and his 19 strikeouts are tied for the second most in a game in MLB history. The game wouldn’t end until the 15th inning, and Ryan would eventually turn things over to Barry Raziano for the final two innings.

1990- The Detroit Pistons defeat the Portland Trail Blazers 92-90 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. On paper the series was dead even, with both Detroit and Portland ending the regular season with a 59-23 record. However, the Bad Boys proved to be too much to handle, giving the Pistons their second consecutive NBA title. Isiah Thomas was named MVP of the series, one in which had five future Hall of Famers.

2021- Cristiano Ronaldo removes the Coca-Cola bottle from a table he was seated at during the press conference, later saying that people should “drink water” instead. On the surface it doesn’t seem that crazy for one of world’s best athletes to suggest that, but the move caused Coca-Cola’s market value to tumble $4 billion.
