Featured Matchup🎰
Philadelphia Flyers @ Columbus Blue Jackets
Model Predicts- Flyers ML, OVER 6.5, Flyers +1.5
The Philadelphia Flyers will hit the road for just one game on Tuesday, traveling to Columbus, Ohio to battle a Metropolitan Division rival in the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Philadelphia enters this divisional battle in the midst of a sizable losing streak, one that has seen the Flyers drop three-consecutive games. Those losses bring Philadelphia’s record to 12-12-4 for the season, and Columbus owns a similar record at 12-12-3 following a win over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday.
Only one point separates the Flyers and Blue Jackets in the Metropolitan Division standings, but our model projects the Flyers to win tonight’s game. Let’s dive into why that is.
Philadelphia Flyers
Enter today on three-game losing streak
Losses to Panthers, Bruins, and Hockey Club
Own -5 goal differential in that span
Have surrendered goals in bunches during losing streak, but defense is strong in 5-on-5 situations
Allowed seven goals to Panthers, four to Bruins and Hockey Club
Playing well in 5-on-5 situations: Allowing just 2.21 goals per 60 minutes (GA/60) in 5-on-5 across last three games
Expected goalie- Samuel Ersson
Columbus Blue Jackets
Won most recent game, but struggling overall in December
Beat Jets 4-1 on Sunday. Three of four goals came in third period
However, have lost three of last four games. Own -6 goal differential in that span
December stats show team is due to see significant regression on both ends of ice
Expected goalie- Elvis Merzlikins
Owns .914 Save % in 5-on-5. Ranks 61st in GSAx (-3.2)
What’s the Play?
Philadelphia hasn’t played good hockey in the month of December, but we agree with our model to back the Flyers to be outright winners tonight.
Columbus has been significantly outperforming expectations on both ends of the ice since December 1st, hinting that regression is near. As previously mentioned, the Blue Jackets own an xGA/60 that is nearly a full goal higher than their GA/60 in 5-on-5 situations this month, which is largely due to allowing 11.79 High-Danger Scoring Chances per 60 minutes (HDCA/60) in 5-on-5 situations. That gives Philadelphia a great chance to get pucks on net, which oftentimes leads to goals against Merzlikins.
Additionally, Philadelphia’s defense has been excellent in 5-on-5 situations, posting a 1.81 xGA/60 in 5-on-5 in December, the third-best mark in the NHL this month. On the surface it looks like the Flyers have been easy to crack, but we expect a Blue Jackets offense due for regression to struggle tonight.
Our model projects the Flyers to be a -134 favorite in this matchup, giving us a sizable edge at their current money line odds of -110.
The Play: Flyers ML (-110)

News Around the League
🔄 Avalanche trade goalie Georgiev to Sharks. The Colorado Avalanche traded goaltender Alexandar Georgiev to the San Jose Sharks, along with forward Nikolai Kovalenko, a 2026 second-round pick, and a conditional 2025 fifth-round pick, in exchange for netminder Mackenzie Blackwood, forward Givani Smith, and a 2027 fifth-round pick. Georgiev, whose performance has declined this season, is in the final year of his contract, while Blackwood, with a stronger save percentage, offers Colorado an upgrade in net and is also set to become a free agent. The Avalanche also added Scott Wedgewood recently, overhauled their goaltending tandem, and gained $1.47 million in cap flexibility with this trade.
📉 Rangers’ struggles continue in loss to Blackhawks. The New York Rangers hit a new low with a 2-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, prompting head coach Peter Laviolette to criticize their lack of execution as "unacceptable." The team has won only two of their last ten games amid trade rumors involving key players, including Jacob Trouba, who was recently dealt to the Anaheim Ducks. Struggling offensively, the Rangers managed just 37.2% of expected goals at five-on-five and were booed off the ice after losing 12-2 in high-danger scoring chances during the final two periods.

Former Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson (Getty Images)
Anyone know what has happened on December 10th throughout history? We didn’t have a clue either, but it appears that it has been a busy day.
On December 10th…
1940- The Chicago Bears select John Harmon with the first overall pick in the NFL Draft. Harmon was widely considered the best prospect in the 1940 draft, as he was a consensus All-American and Heisman Trophy winner at the University of Michigan in 1940. However, Harmon never played a game for Chicago, instead opting for a career in acting and radio.
1995- The Toronto Raptors defeat the Vancouver Grizzlies 93-81. This was the first time Toronto and Vancouver ever played one another, as both entered the league as expansion franchises in 1995. However, wins would be a rarity for Toronto moving forward, ending the year with a 21-61 record, while Vancouver was even worse at 15-67.
2016- Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson wins the 82nd Heisman Trophy. The honor came after Jackson tallied 4,928 total yards of offense in the 2016 season, the second-most by a Heisman winner ever. Jackson was also just 19 years old at the time he won the award, making him the youngest Heisman Trophy winner.
