Today’s Model Predictions

Six NBA games are scheduled to take place today. Our models predictions for all six matchups can be found below.

Featured Matchup🎰

Atlanta Hawks @ Milwaukee Bucks
Model Predicts- Bucks ML, UNDER 236.5, Hawks +4.5

The Atlanta Hawks will begin a short one-game road trip on Wednesday, making the journey to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to battle an Eastern Conference foe in the Milwaukee Bucks.

Atlanta enters this matchup with a mediocre 11-11 record, but the Hawks have been arguably the hottest team in the NBA over the last several days as they have won four-consecutive games. However, Milwaukee has been even hotter as of late, as the Bucks have won seven-straight games to improve their season record to 11-9.

Only one win streak will stay alive tonight, and our model projects that win streak to be the Bucks’ in a tightly-contested game. Let’s dive into why that is.

Atlanta Hawks
  • Enter today on four-game win streak

    • Two wins over Cavaliers, one win over Hornets and Pelicans

    • Own +42 point differential in that span

  • Defense has seen surprising improvements during win streak

    • Own 106.5 Defensive Rating over last four games- ranks 5th in NBA and is significantly better than 114.0 rating for season

    • Opponents shooting 42.1% overall (1st in NBA) and 32.4% from three (4th in NBA)

  • Have some players on injury report, but only one is significant

    • Seth Lundy and Cody Zeller remain OUT. Trae Young us questionable but likely to play

Milwaukee Bucks
  • Enter today on seven-game win streak

    • Wins over Rockets, Bulls, Pacers, Hornets, Heat, Wizards, and Pistons

    • Own +59 point differential in that span

  • Have been among the NBA’s best on both ends of floor during win streak

    • +10.4 Net Rating ranks 2nd in NBA over last seven games. Consists of 120.1 Offensive Rating and 109.7 Defensive Rating

    • Averaging 119.3 points/game while shooting 50.9% from the floor overall and 46.2% from three

  • Largest weakness defensively has come on the perimeter

    • Opponents shooting 36.6% from three this season on 38.4 attempts/game- ranks 21st in NBA

What’s the Play?

Milwaukee is finally playing like the NBA Finals contender that many expected it to be, but we agree with our model to back the Hawks on the spread as as road underdog tonight.

Tonight’s matchup is the second game of a back-to-back set for the Bucks, a situation they have struggled in this season. Per TeamRankings, Milwaukee is just 2-2 overall this season while playing with no rest, posting a -20 point differential in that span. Milwaukee’s opponents are averaging 118.5 points/game in those matchups too, further highlighting the Bucks’s struggles with no time off.

Conversely, Atlanta is 3-2 overall and against the spread this season while playing with the rest advantage, and the Hawks will be in a great position to take advantage of Milwaukee’s back-to-back weakness, as Atlanta is averaging 120.8 points/game while shooting 49.7% overall and 36.7% from three during its win streak.

The Hawks have the talent to compete with the Bucks offensively, and Atlanta’s sudden improvements defensively and the rest advantage give the Hawks the edge here. As a result, we’ll back Atlanta on the spread.

The Play: Hawks +4.5 (-110)

News Around the League

👏 Paul Millsap announces his retirement from basketball. NBA veteran Paul Millsap has announced his retirement after a 16-year career, last playing for the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2021-22 season. Drafted 47th overall by the Utah Jazz in 2006, he became a key rotation player before earning four All-Star nods during his time with the Atlanta Hawks, where he helped lead the team to a franchise-record 60 wins in 2014-15. Millsap also played for the Denver Nuggets and Brooklyn Nets, finishing with career averages of 13.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and a block per game.

⭐️ Nikola Jokic stars in comeback win over Warriors. Nikola Jokic led the Denver Nuggets with 38 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals, helping them rally from a late deficit to beat the Golden State Warriors 119-115. Despite falling short of another triple-double, Jokic’s clutch free throws and Jamal Murray's critical steal in the final seconds secured Denver's eighth straight regular-season win over Golden State. Steph Curry's 24 points and 11 assists weren’t enough for the Warriors, who dropped their fifth straight game and were missing defensive standout Draymond Green.

On This Day in History🗓

Former Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor (Getty Images)

Anyone know what has happened on December 4th throughout history? We didn’t have a clue either, but it appears that it has been a busy day.

On December 4th…

1988- The Baltimore Orioles trade star first baseman Eddie Murray to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Murray requested to be traded from Baltimore after his relationship with Orioles management soured, a result of the team’s management pressuring him to return to the field too early following an ankle injury. He was traded to Los Angeles for three players, and played for the Dodgers until 1991.

1996- The Orlando Magic lose to another Eastern Conference opponent, the Cleveland Cavaliers. Orlando lost the game by a score of 86-57, with the Magic setting an NBA record for fewest points scored in a game during the 24-second shot clock era. Only one Magic player reached double-figures in scoring, as Gerald Wilkins ended the game with 10 points.

2010- The sixth ACC Championship is contested between the Virginia Tech Hokies and Florida State Seminoles. Virginia Tech came out of gates hot, as the Hokies jumped out to an early 14-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Hokies would stay hot the rest of the way, beating the Seminoles by a score of 44-33, and Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor was named the game’s MVP.
