Today’s Model Predictions

Two NBA games are scheduled to take place today. Our model’s predictions for both matchups can be found below.

Featured Matchup🎰

Golden State Warriors @ Houston Rockets
Model Predicts- Rockets ML, OVER 222, Rockets -2

The Golden State Warriors will begin a three-game road trip on Wednesday, with the first stop coming in Houston, Texas to battle the Rockets.

Golden State enters tonight’s matchup fresh off a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, improving its record to 14-9 for the season. Similarly, Houston comes into this matchup after finding the win column against the Los Angeles Clippers, ending a two-game losing streak to move to 16-8 for the season.

Golden State took down Houston at home last week, but our model projects the shift in venue to lead to a Rockets win here. Let’s dive further into why that is.

Golden State Warriors
  • Enter tonight off win vs Timberwolves

    • Won game 114-106. Avenged 17-point loss to Minnesota last Friday

    • Shot 47% overall and 39% from three in game. 65 of 114 points came in second half

  • Have been one of strongest teams in NBA while on road this season

    • Have won seven of 12 road games this season. Rank fourth in Net Rating on road (+5.8)

    • Averaging 110.8 points/game at home, compared to 117.2 on road

  • Dealing with several injuries to key rotation players

    • De’Anthony Melton and Moses Moody are OUT. Andrew Wiggins is questionable

Houston Rockets
  • Enter tonight off win vs Los Angeles Clippers

    • Won game 117-106. Win ended two-game losing streak

    • Shot 49% overall and 37% from three. Scored 30+ points in three of four quarters

  • Strong defense has been the key to success this season

    • Rank second in Defensive Rating this season (105.4)

    • Strength comes in defending the perimeter- opponents shooting 34.1% from three (5th in NBA)

  • Four players listed on injury report for this matchup

    • Alperen Sengun, Jae’Sean Tate, Steven Adams, Cam Whitmore are all questionable

What’s the Play?

As previously mentioned, the Warriors took down the Rockets just a few days ago, winning the matchup 99-93. However, we agree with our model to back the Rockets to win outright tonight.

Golden State as been solid on the road this season, but the Warriors’ production as the visiting team is still far behind the Rockets’ while at home. Per NBA.com, Houston owns a +10.6 Net Rating at home this season, which ranks sixth in the NBA and is almost five-points higher than Golden State’s aforementioned +5.8 Net Rating on the road.

Perhaps to no surprise, defense has been the key to Houston’s home success, as the Rockets have posted a 102.9 Defensive Rating across 12 home games. That defense is complimented with an efficient offense too, one that owns a 113.5 Offensive Rating.

We suggest keeping an eye on Alperen Sengun’s injury status throughout the day, but even if he doesn’t play our model projects Houston to win. As a result, we’ll grab the Rockets money line at -125, which our model believes should be closer to -160.

The Play: Rockets ML (-125)

News Around the League

🤕 Derrick Jones Jr. out at least two weeks with hamstring injury. Los Angeles Clippers forward Derrick Jones Jr. will be re-evaluated in two weeks after suffering a hamstring strain during Sunday's loss to the Houston Rockets, where he scored just two points before exiting in the first quarter. His absence adds to the team's injury woes, with Terance Mann sidelined until late December and Kawhi Leonard still without a return date for his lingering knee issue. On a positive note, Leonard participated in limited practice, and James Harden, who missed the Houston game due to groin tightness, has returned to full practice.

🔥 Miami Heat open to trading Jimmy Butler in final year of contract. The Miami Heat are reportedly open to trading Jimmy Butler, a six-time All-Star, ahead of his expected free agency next summer, with Butler showing interest in joining contenders like the Warriors, Rockets, or Mavericks. Despite battling injuries earlier this season, Butler has delivered strong performances since his return, averaging 21.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game while maintaining efficiency. Known for his postseason impact, Butler has been pivotal in leading Miami to two NBA Finals during his tenure, though the team is currently fifth in the East with a 12-10 record.
